To Port Hardy - Part 2

From Black Creek, we pass Campbell River and continue north, mainly inland, to Port Hardy.

Must comment on Mountain City Cycles in Campbell River... absolutely wonderful service... both Ursula and Rae needed some work on their bikes, and so did half-a-dozen others in the group. Mountain City accommodated everybody and did really good work.

The route started on the coast...
...watched by at least one live Heron...
 ...and one beautifully carved eagle...
 Inland we saw many hilly...
Rae failed to recharge his fuel cells at this vintage gas pump...
Day we were lucky... dry when we were riding but it started to rain just after we got the tent set up. It rained off and on all night, but the next morning, the rain stopped just as we got up and packed up the tents. It was mostly cloudy on day 4, but the sun came through a bit...
Lunch stop...
...and clear, clear water in the rivers...
Artistry extends even to gas stations... probably the nicest-looking above-ground tank we've ever seen,
...and with almost 500 km behind us, we rode into Port Hardy on Sunday afternoon, and the clouds cleared...
Port Hardy twenty years ago was a town of 14,000 but the closure of a copper mine and general decline in timber and fishing industries have seen the population slide to less than 4000 now. The Canadian Coast Guard is still here...
...and there still is fishing and timber.
Tomorrow (Monday) morning will be an early one... on our bikes at 0500, in the dark, for a 12-km ride to be at the ferry terminal in time for the sailing to Prince Rupert.
